Personal evangelism, as used in this devotional, is concerned with you trying to help someone else get saved by accepting Jesus as his/her savior by faith. A key idea in this series of devotionals, “Don’t Quit,” which is based on II Thessalonians 3:13, is that, “We should not quit the good work that God is calling us to do.”
It will be a terrible day, if you stand before the Lord and see people who in Hell but could have been saved from going to Hell, if you had tried to help them. On one hand, we cannot save anyone. We plant and water seeds, and God provides the increase.
I Corinthians 3:5-9 says, 5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe — as the Lord has assigned to each his task.
6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. 7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. 9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
But on the other hand, we have scriptural instructions to do what we can (see Mt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). Every saved person should be able to explain the basics of the “Plan of Salvation”
1. God loves you; 2. Your sin separates you from God’s blessings; 3. Jesus’ death satisfies your sin debt; and 4. You must accept Jesus as your savior by faith. And we should all be able to share how these four statements relate to John 3:16. 16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
We should live in such a way that people ask us how we are able to keep on smiling and doing positive things with our lives, in spite of the troubles that come our way. In response to such questions, we should share how Jesus gives us the power and perspective to do so. Let’s make sure we are involved in the good work of personal evangelism.
Self Examination 1. On a scale of one to five, with five being high, how would you grade your helping people to get saved? Why?
2. What are you going to do to improve in this area?
Prayer Great and awesome God, the One who has saved me, so I can be a part of helping others to get saved, it is to You that I pray. Thank You for saving me. Thank You for the privilege of helping others to get saved.
I admit that I have not always given my best effort, in this area. Please forgive me and help me to do a better job with personal evangelism. In Jesus’ name, amen.
