Rejoicing Can Make You Feel Better

Make you feel better, as used here, is a reference to how your emotional state will improve, when you rejoice about the goodness of the Lord. A key idea in this series of devotionals, "Rejoice Instead of Weep," based on Ezra 3:10-13, is that "We should rejoice more than we weep."

In this devotional, let's focus on how rejoicing will improve how you feel. There is something about climbing over the darkness of one’s circumstances to the light of praise that makes us feel better.

There is something about standing, clapping, and moving for the Lord so much that you began to sweat that makes the worshiper feel better. Rejoicing may not change exterior problems, but it can change interior responses. Praise many not change pain, but it can give you peace in your storms.

Praise may not change circumstance, but it can give you joy in your times of sorrow. Nehemiah recorded that even when things looked bad that the people of God should rejoice, because the joy of the Lord is our strength (see Neh. 8:10).

Self Examination
1. How are you doing with rejoicing like you understanding that it will help you feel better?

2. What are you going to do to improve in this area?

Prayer
Great and awesome God, the One who ministers to my spirit as I worship, it is to You that I pray. Thank You for how You make me feel better, when I rejoice about Your goodness towards me.

I confess that I have too often focused on negativity more than on how good You have already been to me. Please forgive me and help me to live right. In Jesus' name, amen.
