Looking Straight Ahead

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.” (see Pro. 4:25; NIV)

Notice in the text of this Christian devotional that the reader is urged to look straight ahead. He is to have a fixed gaze on what is directly before him. As we strive to stay focused on what is most meaningful to us, we should keep this text in mind.

There are so many distractions in this world. Between the news, which is often negative, and advertisement, which is often pulling our emotional triggers, we can see why we have to work on focus.

Our text urges us to look past all of the distractions and fix our gaze on what is ahead. Our personal stewardship, close relationships, and making a positive contribution to this world that glorifies God should be on the list of things that we focus on. Make this the day that you look straight ahead.

Self-Examination

1. On a scale of one to five, where five means great, how well are you doing with “looking straight ahead”?

2. What will you work on TODAY to help you do better or continue to do great in this area?

Prayer

Great and awesome God, the One who is always with me, it is to You that I pray. Thank You for patiently calling me back to those things that really matter. I confess that there have been times that I have allowed distractions to get the best of me. Please forgive me and help me to do better in this area. In Jesus’ name, amen.
