Your Rejoicing Helps Others

Helps others, as used here, is a reference being a blessing to those around you. A key idea in this series of devotionals, "Rejoice Instead of Weep," based on Ezra 3:10-13, is that "We should rejoice more than we weep."

In this devotional, let's focus on how rejoicing ministers others. Passages like Romans 15:1 and Colossians 3:16 support the idea that your rejoicing can minister to others.

Our attitudes are contagious. I have gone to funerals and did well with my grieving, until I saw loved ones so bent out of shape. Their pain of others became my pain.

But I’ve also been in situations where the joys of others became my joy. I’ve watched how children can be so excited over having a toy, a piece of candy, or a trip to the ice cream parlor. Their joy was contagious.

Their smiles have made me smile. In other words, we ought to rejoice because we never know who needs our “amen,” our “thank You, Jesus,” our “Praise the Lord!”

The praises of the saints can lift our spirits. We can draw strength from one another and be made the better, by our worship experiences. Out of our rejoicing, we are reminded that no enemy is greater than our God. We are reminded that the pain of Good Friday is followed by the victory of Easter morning.

Self Examination
1. How are you doing with rejoicing because of how it ministers to others?

2. What are you going to do to improve in this area?

Great and awesome God, the God who has blessed me, so I can be a blessing to others, it is to You that I pray. Thank You for how You have blessed my life in ways that I am not even aware of yet.

I confess that I should have rejoiced because it helps others, but too often I kept my praise and rejoicing to myself. Please forgive me for this and my many others sins. In Jesus' name, amen.
