Divine Wisdom is Better Than Miraculous Money
Divine wisdom is a reference to having the God given ability to use knowledge. In this article, it is the God given ability to use financial knowledge. The following are three reasons that you should seek divine wisdom, instead of simply miraculous money:
1. Without wisdom, money fades. Just as God provided a feast for over 5,000 people (see Mk. 6:35-44), He is still able to provide miraculous money. However, if you don't have the ability to use knowledge, the money will not last.
There have been people who have won large sums of money through lottery, gambling, inheritances, or professional athletics or singing. Too many lost the money, because they did not have the mastery of financial knowledge to hold on to.
A fool and his money are soon parted. Consequently, our prayer should be for divine wisdom, instead of just a miraculous supply of money.
2. With wisdom comes the ability to make money. I have heard it said, without documented proof, that if all of the money in the world was evenly distributed that in about ten years those who used to be rich would be rich again. Those who used to be poor would be poor again.
Solomon's wisdom played a part in his having money (see II Chron. 1:10-12). People who know how to used financial knowledge know how to earn high, spend low, and invest.
They know how to make their money work for them, instead of simply working for their money. Poverty is often more than simply a lack of money. Poverty is often a lack of knowing how to use financial knowledge also.
3. With wisdom comes the proper perspective on money. When you have God given ability to used financial knowledge then you know that money is a good servant but a poor master. Money can buy the best bed, as a servant, but it cannot supply rest. Money can buy delicious food, as a servant, but it cannot buy an appetite to appreciate the food.
Money can buy tickets to entertainment events, as a servant, but it cannot buy joy. Without the ability to use knowledge, you are tempted to value money more than God. But with the ability to use knowledge comes the realization that God is the source of all good and pleasant things (see Jm. 1:17). The source is more valuable than the resource.
Because of these ideas, we should seek God given ability to use financial knowledge more than simply a miraculous supply of money.
Wisdom can be obtained by way of studying books and other resources, interviewing wise people, praying for God's wisdom, and trying to apply what we know. These are ways in which God may answer our prayer for divine wisdom (see Jm. 1:5).
