Church Covenant: Teaching Four

Introduction: The Church Covenant should be read and reflected upon from time to time, as suggested by passages like Titus 3:8. Today, we hope to discuss the first three paragraphs of the Covenant.

Read Paragraph Five

In this paragraph, notice that we commit to finding another church where we can keep up the good work that we committed to doing here. We may not always be members of this local church, but we should always be in a Bible based church.

Teaching Points –
- Matthew 6:33 teaches that as we put God first in our lives, He will take care of us. There are untold blessings in simply obeying God's will. It is God's will for us to be active members of a Bible based church. Keep God first and wait on His blessings.

- Hebrews 12:6 teaches the danger of being disobedient. God will punish those who disobey, especially when they know better. There may be a time, when we fall out with one another. However, we should never fall out with God. We should stay in a church.

- I suggest you look for the three "W"s, when looking for a church. Look for the Word, work, and warmth. The Word of God should be preached and taught regularly, in a way that is accurate and helpful. There needs to be some work going on.

The work of evangelism and edification should be going on in such a way that not only are those in the church being blessed, but those in the community and other places are being blessed as well. And there needs to be some warmth or Christian fellowship.

It needs to be a place where you feel accepted, encouraged, and supported. Within three months of visiting and making notes, I suggest that you chose the best of the pickings, until you find something better.

In summary, we have entered into a Covenant with one another to stay in a church where we can continue the good work that we have committed to doing here. The Pastor has suggested that the Word, work, and warmth are things to look for in a searching for a church.

Conclusion: Let’s work on keeping our word/covenant. We would have such a great church and make such great positive impact, if we simply lived up to our Church Covenant.
